What to do before a shock wave therapy session...
If you haven't consulted with one of our chiropractors before, an initial assessment is required to determine the specific area of pain and to confirm if ESWT is a suitable treatment for you. Additionally, we will discuss whether any further tests or scans are necessary before starting the treatment.
What to expect on your first shockwave therapy session...
On your first shockwave treatment, you can expect your practitioner to apply ultrasound gel to the affected area and place the device's handpiece over the skin and gel. The shockwaves will be delivered through the skin, which may cause slight discomfort. However, your practitioner will start at a low level of intensity and gradually increase it to a where you feel comfortable. Any pain felt will stop as soon the treatment ends. The entire session usually lasts about 15 - 30 minutes, and you may need 3-5 treatments, typically performed at weekly intervals.
