What is a spinal manipulation?
Spinal manipulation, also known as chiropractic manipulation (joint manipulation) is a non-invasive treatment where a chiropractor uses a hands-on technique or (activator) device to adjust the spine or joint to assist in alleviating pain, improving mobility, and helping overall patient wellness.
Are spinal manipulations safe?
Yes, spinal manipulations are safe treatments that is delivered to patients on a daily basis. Patients often anticipate their treatment sessions due to the numerous benefits they receive, such as living without pain, better posture, improved balance, and the ability to continue their favorite activities.
Do spinal manipulations Hurt?
At our facility, our members typically find the adjustment process to be enjoyable. While adjustments are not painful, they may startle and feel unusual during the first few sessions and sometimes cause slight discomfort following your adjustments, and is particularly noted at the start of your treatment. Do not fear, this discomfort is nothing to worry about and passes quickly. this type of feeling is similar to the feeling you get when you first return to exercising. However, this is perfectly normal, mild and will subside within 24 hours. It is simply a result of the changes being made to your body.
What to expect during a spinal manipulation:
spinal manipulation / adjustment can be completed in different positions including seated, laying face down or facing upward on a chiropractic table. The chiropractor will then assist you by gently pushing, pulling or twisting the body into the correct position. When the correct position is engaged the chiropractor will apply a high velocity low amplitude (HVLA) quick thrust to the joint. following this you may hear some "popping" or "cracking" sounds, but don't be alarmed as this is normal and harmless as its similar to cracking your own knuckles.
What is the cracking / popping sound?
Our body has a lubricating fluid between all joints that enhances the ease of movement. sometimes within this fluid tiny bubbles of gas form and when certain adjusting methods are used, the gas bubbles are released causing the sound of a pop.
What to expect after a spinal manipulation:
In most cases many patients who have adjustments or regularly receive spinal adjustments don't have any negative reactions after they're treatment. however, in some cases soreness or aching within the first 24 hours may be noted. Do not be alarmed, this is normal and is no different than if you went to the gym and suffered soreness after the first session it do subside.

Alternatively many others find immediate relief, improved range of motion and reduced muscle tension following their sessions, and with additional care and advise we aim to support you every step of the way.
